Description

Cats as pets are not mentioned in the Bible.  However, lion, members of the feline grouping, are mentioned in 39 passages.  They generally symbolize strength and courage, reminding us that no matter what life throws at us, we have the power available to us from God to be courageous as the proverbial lion-hearted.

Jesus is called the Lion of Judah because He fulfills the prophecy in Genesis 49:9.  Being called the Lion of Judah means that Jesus not only sacrificed Himself for our sins but will also come to rule over the world.

In Isaiah 31:4, God is depicted as a protective lion: “This is what the LORD says to me: ‘As a lion growls, a great lion over its prey–and though a whole band of shepherds is called together against it, it is not frightened by their shouts or disturbed by their clamor–so the LORD Almighty will come down to do battle on Mount Zion and its heights” (NIV).  Here, the lion is a symbol of God’s protection and ultimate authority.

So it is fitting and proper to connect the many cats born and raised at the historic William Miller Home and Farm with the protection that it provided them from their enemies and their shelter in time of storms with the many heartwarming and sometimes tearful recollections that took place there.  All these stories began in 2006 with my husband’s and my ministry at the historic William Miller Farm as caretakers and docents. Even to the present, we are still involved in its ministry.
