Description

ABOUT THE BOOK AND THE AUTHOR Dr. Alberto R. Treiyer earned a Doctorate in Biblical Theology from the Protestant Faculty at the University of Strasbourg. Some of his papers were published by the BRI on Leviticus and Hebrews. The time came now to write a historicist commentary on Revelation that required going beyond explaining the content of the book. It also had to respond to the approaches of different religious sectors… The Book of Revelation is not a fable. Their prophetic projections have been believed in and experienced by the generations that preceded us in their struggles and triumphs to remain faithful to the Word of God. Our faith is strengthened when we revisit the steps of those who have gone before us in this war. Those who cannot understand the experiences of the times depicted in the apocalyptic prophecies deserve the reproach of Jesus: “You know how to interpret the appearance of the sky, but not the signs of the times” (Matt 16:2–3). Koot van Wyk: This theological commentary, Historicist Theology of the Book of Revelation, is pleasant reading. The author came from a rich academic background, and one cannot miss his wholehearted effort to keep close to the biblical text. Not for one paragraph, is there an attempt to bring in hermeneutics of suspicion or doubt. He progressed with his historiography by citing from many factual references in European and other libraries. He knows his subject matter very well. The formulations of the narrative are simple and clear. Indeed, the reader will be blessed by another Historicist-approach jewel. Those who are his friends will welcome the book with open arms and consider it a very informative addition to what they know also. Those who consider themselves as his opponents will frown and sigh by the clarity of the errors in their own thinking. Ever since I got to know the author, his explanations were from a stance of great research as backing. We thank him for his efforts to give us another Historicist Academic Commentary on Revelation. D.Litt et Phil (University of South Africa); Th.D (Rikkyo University, Japan); MA (Stellenbosch University). Alberto Novell: This commentary masterfully combines the author’s erudition with his pastoral vocation. The symbols, types and figures of prophecy make practical sense for the reader’s religious experience. The author appeals not only to intellectual understanding but also to spiritual discernment. Ellen G. White has a prominent role throughout the work, and that is also an enormous plus. The originality of this book is especially relevant in the new ways of reaffirming the traditional historical exegesis (historicist), with updated documentation, coherence in the interpretation, solidity in the presentation, and rigor in the investigation.
