Description
The game we know now as Paddleball has a rich and varied history. In colonial America, “Battledore and Shuttlecock” was a very popular game. A Battledore was a wooden paddle used to bat the Shuttlecock, much like the games of lawn tennis. Shortly before the American Revolution, toy stores is Boston began carrying the game, so great was its popularity.
Later in American history, the ball was attached by an elastic or rubber string or cord to the paddle. Today, it is widely known as “Paddleball” or “Snap-Back Paddle.”
